Ontario Elementary Grade 8 History Curriculum

In Grade 8 history, the expectations are divided into two chronological strands.

The topics covered are as follows:

A. Creating Canada, 1850–1890

B. Canada, 1890–1914: A Changing Society

In Grade 8 history, students will build on their understanding of earlier Canadian history, examining how social, political, economic, and legal changes in Canada between 1850 and 1914 affected different groups in an increasingly diverse and regionally distinct nation.
